Bahrain's new guidelines for residential expansion

Bahrain has released a guide and the necessary regulations for housing project areas.

After the Cabinet approved a draft decision to change the construction regulations in areas designated for housing projects, the requirements were put in place. According to a Bahrain News Agency report, the purpose of this amendment is to make it easier to expand building spaces for residential plots and housing units.

The goal of these regulations, according to Amna bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, is to maximize the benefits that citizens receive from opportunities for development surrounding housing units. Recurring building violations are addressed and turned into legal amendments in accordance with the regulatory standards that are applied to all residential units, plots, and buildings under the Ministry of Housing’s jurisdiction.

She continued by saying that, as part of a comprehensive legal framework, the decision regulates the requirements for residential building areas in addition to the housing areas that are not yet delineated. According to the report, this initiative is the outcome of coordinated efforts between the legislative and executive branches, and it was brought about after a thorough review of cases that were submitted to the Ministry, citizen proposals that were received through the National Suggestions and Complaints System (Tawasul), and input from members of parliament and local councils.
